Our Story

Three Thousand Years
in a Single Pour

Makgeolli is Korea's oldest surviving fermented beverage — a milky, lightly effervescent rice wine born in clay jars buried beneath the earth. Shared freely across all walks of life, it carried the rhythm of the seasons: sowed in spring, celebrated at harvest, and offered reverently to ancestors.

At Waaneiza, we follow the ancient method unchanged: glutinous rice, mountain spring water, and nuruk — a wild fermentation cake alive with indigenous microcultures. No shortcuts. No additives. Just time, temperature, and patience.

Shake gently before you pour. Watch the white cloud rise. That cloud is history.

What Makes Waaneiza
Different

01

Naturally Fermented

No laboratory yeast, no accelerants. Only nuruk — a wild Korean fermentation cake alive with native microorganisms — and fourteen unhurried days in temperature-stable earthenware jars.

02

Cloudy & Alive

That luminous white swirl is not a flaw — it is live yeast, still active, still evolving. Our Makgeolli breathes inside the bottle. No two pours are identical.

Signature Blend
03

Cultural Heritage

Offered at ancestral rites, shared in paddy fields at harvest, ladled from communal bowls at markets — Makgeolli is threaded through Korean identity across three millennia. We carry that lineage forward.

A good brew does not announce itself — it reveals itself, sip by patient sip.
